4Story: Where We Are and What Comes Next

Dear Warriors,

Since announcing that Gameforge has acquired the 4Story IP, we have seen one question more than any other:

What happens next?

The honest answer is that work has already begun, but much of what needs to happen first is taking place behind the scenes.

The handover is not simply a transfer of files. Our teams are working through source code, tools, assets, documentation and development processes that have grown over many years. Before we can make responsible decisions about major features, timelines or a public roadmap, we first need to understand how the game's systems fit together, how changes can be developed and tested safely, and where the most important technical risks and opportunities lie.

For that reason, our initial focus is on technical groundwork.

We are reviewing existing systems, investigating long-standing issues, improving our understanding of the codebase and establishing reliable processes for future development. Some of this work may lead to changes you notice directly in the game. Much of it will not be immediately visible.

That does not make it any less important. It is the foundation we need to make meaningful improvements responsibly, without creating new problems elsewhere.

You've already seen one early example of what this technical work can uncover with Battlegrounds.

While working through a broader set of code changes, we were able to remove a long-standing limitation that had capped parties at three players, enabling 5v5 Battlegrounds. It wasn't originally the focus of that work, but it's a good example of both the opportunities and complexities we are discovering as we get deeper into a game that has evolved over many years.

We've also been encouraged by the response since our announcement and by how many of you are engaging constructively in the conversation about 4Story's future.

We are closely following those discussions across the community, including the detailed questions collected by community creators and long-standing players. We have seen your questions and suggestions around topics including cheating and bugs, monetisation, accessibility for new players, server structure, Classic servers, technical improvements, new content and a longer-term roadmap.

These are valid topics, and we are listening.

However, we do not want to answer them with speculation or make commitments before we know what is technically feasible and realistically deliverable. A broad promise may sound exciting today, but a reliable plan is worth far more in the long run.

What we can say clearly is this:

We did not acquire 4Story simply to preserve the status quo. Our goal is to create the foundation needed to improve and develop the game over time.

The technical work happening now is the first step towards that goal.

Please continue sharing your questions, ideas and feedback through our official Discord server: https://discord.com/invite/4story. We are reading it, discussing it internally and using it to better understand what matters most to the community and where future work could have the greatest impact.

As soon as our plans are concrete enough for us to stand behind them, we will communicate them openly through our official channels.

Thank you for your patience, your feedback and, above all, for continuing to care so deeply about 4Story.

See you in Iberia!

Your Gameforge 4Story Team
